How to use this lab

  1. Choose a reaction under Select a mixture.
  2. Inspect the starting solutions, then choose Mix reagents. The beaker starts empty. Watch each 10 mL portion pour in and raise the liquid level; for the zinc trial, the solution goes in before the metal strip.
  3. For mixtures that form a precipitate, wait five seconds after mixing finishes. The solid then settles automatically, leaving clearer liquid above. For the zinc trial, observe the coating on the metal.
  4. Reset to replay, or select another mixture. Open Reveal the chemistry after making your own observations.

The ten mixtures follow the attached lab’s observation table. Solution colors and precipitate textures are illustrative; actual appearance depends on lighting, concentration and time. Mixing colors alone does not establish a reaction.

Virtual reagents only. In a real lab, use eye protection and your teacher’s handling and waste instructions, especially for lead and silver compounds and sodium hydroxide.
